About

I built my first HF radio from surplus parts using Radio magazine schematics after school back in the late 80s and I still remember the overwhelming feeling when it finally worked. Then life intervened until I finally was able to get back to the hobby some 20+ years later.

I got my Canadian Basic+ license in April 2011 (with honours – meaning HF privileges), then added CW endorsement. In 2016 I passed US General FCC exam so I can operate in the US – albeit with some band restrictions.
Now slowly working towards my Advanced / Extra class exam.

I enjoy DX’ing, occasional contesting, and occasional field and mobile QRP operation – especially from exotic DX locations. During daytime, I’m busy coding software and building databases for financial companies.

I’m not much into paper-chasing, but I think I got 120+ confirmed countries (DXCC entities) on LotW and by QSL cards. Most contacts were made using a 31′ vertical wire attached to a fiberglass pole and 5-100 watts of power.

I received a Triple Play (CW+Phone+Digital) Worked All States award from ARRL, and I think I’m in the CQ WPX Honour Roll (min 600 prefixes required) by now.

Thank you and hope to see you on the bands!
